Stony Brook is located in Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. It is located on the north shore of Long Island, 60 miles from Manhattan and 16 miles from Bridgeport, Connecticut, across the Long Island Sound.

By CAR:

  • From WEST by car: Take the Long Island Expressway (LIE, I-495) eastbound from the Queens Midtown Tunnel in Manhattan or the Throgs Neck Bridge or the Whitestone Bridge in Queens to exit 62 and follow Nicolls Road (Route 97) north for 8 ½ miles. Go 1 mile north on Nicolls Road past the Route 347 intersection. At the light, make a right into the hospital entrance and follow signs to hospital parking.
  • From EAST by car: Take the Long Island Expressway (LIE, I-495) westbound to exit 62 and follow Nicolls Road (Route 97) north for 8 ½ miles. Go 1 mile north on Nicolls Road past the Route 347 intersection. At the light, make a right into the hospital entrance and follow signs to hospital parking.

 

By TRAIN:

  • Long Island Railroad [(718) 217-5477] to Stony Brook.

    Take the Long Island Railroad's Port Jefferson line from Pennsylvania Station in Manhattan to Stony Brook. The train station is at the border of the campus and bus service to the central campus is provided. Some trains require changing at Jamaica Station and some at Huntington Station.

  • New York City Area Airports (JFK, LaGuardia and Newark) airports are 50 miles to the west.

  • Car ferries cross Long Island Sound at Bridgeport, Connecticut to Port Jefferson, Long Island [(516) 473-0286]

    Take Route 25A west to Nicolls Road. The University Hospital entrances are the second and third intersections you come to on the left (east) hand side. Make a left and follow signs for hospital parking.

  • From New London, Connecticut to Orient Point, Long Island [LI: (516) 323-2525, CT: (860) 443-5281]

    Take Route 25A west to Nicolls Road. The University Hospital entrances are the second and third intersections you come to on the left (east) hand side. Make a left and follow signs for hospital parking.
