Vaporization:
the explosion of the cell due to boiling the intracellular water when the cell is heated to 100°C or above.

Vasoconstrictor: An agent that causes narrowing of the blood vessels.

Vasodilator: An agent that causes dilation of the blood vessels.

Vesical: Relating to any bladder, but usually the urinary bladder.

Vesicolithiasis: Stone.

Vesicostomy: Creation of a stoma between the anterior bladder wall and the skin of the lower abdomen.

Vesicotomy: Cystotomy.

Vitamin D: Vitamin D is essential for absorption of calcium and phosphate particularly during childhood. It prevents rickets and helps maintain healthy teeth and bones. In excess, it can cause kidney stones. This condition is called Hypervitaminosis D.

Watt:
The SI unit of electrical power. The power available when the current is 1 ampere and the electromotive force is 1 volt.

Weddelite: calcium oxalate dihydrate stone.

Whewellite: calcium oxalate monohydrate stone.

Work-up: The organized sequence of medical tests used to establish a diagnosis. A work-up for diagnosis of kidney stones would include a urine examination and X-rays. A metabolic work-up for stone prevention would refer to the blood and urine chemistry tests used to analyze chemical risk factors ultimately resulting in a diagnosis.

Wound: Trauma to any of the tissues of the body.

Xanthine:
Oxidation product of guanine and hypoxanthine, precursor of uric acid.

Xanthine calculi: extremely rare type of stone

Xanthinuria: The excretion of abnormally large amounts of xanthine in the urine.

X-ray: high energy, visible waves capable of penetrating the body and creating shadows on photographic film. Shadows provide images of the body tissue through which X-rays pass.

Yohimbine:
An alkaloid. It produces a competitive blockage of limited duration, or adrenergic a-receptors. Has been used as an aphrodisiac.

Yttrium: A metallic element. Symbol Yb, atomic no. 70, and atomic weight 173.04.
